Coco's Little Report on Target in Oahu, Hawaii

IMG_2035After much anticipation and waiting, my husband and I finally made a pilgrimage last Saturday to Honolulu (Saltlake)'s own Target!

To avoid the crowd, we got there right after the door opened at 8:00AM. I don't know how crowded the store gets, but I saw a few uniformed policemen outside the store - for crowd control, I guess?

As we entered the door, I was a bit overwhelmed by the hugeness of the store.
In fact, the store resides in the former site of Costco & it is the biggest Target store in the US.

DSC00044
The employees looked very happy & excited to be working there in this bad economy and I felt happy, too :).

They were also wearing cute Aloha shirts.  I saw the same design on the reusable totes.  I think the totes are exclusively sold at the stores in Hawaii.

IMG_2027
The first thing I checked was the accessories department.

I had been eyeing for Anya Hindmarch bags since I saw them online.

To my huge disappointment (& to my husband's relief), they were nowhere to be seen... Does any of you know what happened to them?

I still liked their collection of handbags & hats, though. They are reasonably priced, but not cheapy-looking.
IMG_2016

As it was reported in a local news, we found a lot of uniquely "Hawaii" products.

To list a few;

Local Foods

IMG_2019
Hawaiian Jewelries
Aloha Wears
- Loved baby clothes with Hawaiian words on them!

Swim Suits (in winter...)

Marine Sports Gears

And Hawaiian-themed souveniors - I did not find anything particularly unique (because most of them are available at other stores) except SPAM!

IMG_2024We thought the store had an unusually wide selection of Spam-themed goods. I found T-shirts, caps, accessories, stationaries, etc.

Oddly, I did not find actual Spam cans - but it turned out that they were on sale for $1.50 on an opening day and sold out....

I knew that Spam is a popular food in Hawaii, but did not realized we are such a SPAM state until now...

Tipsy Tuesday: Make Your Own Swiffer Refills

Casey@EcOnomical Mom is hosting Tipsy Tuesday where her readers share their own tips on various .  Her blog is filled with great green tips and I love it!

This week I am sharing a tip on making your own swiffer refills ~.
I love my Swiffer!  It certainly makes my housework so much easier.  Who has time & energy to vacuum everyday.  I don't, especially with my huge & noisy vacuum cleaner....

But what I don't love about Swiffer is that the refills are so expensive & wasteful.

Fiscal and Body Detox Month - March 2009

The second week of March has already started, and I am embarrassed to make an announcement so late - I seriously need time-management tips.

This month, inspired by No-Spend Challenge @ the MotherLoad, & Two books I recently read - The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches: A Practical (and Fun) Guide to Enjoying Life More by Spending Less, & In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto, I decided to undergo my own fiscal and body detoxification.

Safeway - Total: $6.98
10 lb. bag of Navel Orange - $4.99
3 lb. bag of Yellow Onions - $1.99

Honolulu's Chinatown - Total: 14.00
Watercress
Onions
Chives
Broccoli
Green Lettuces
Eggplants
Chinese yams
Zucchini
Seaweed

* Shops in Chinatown usually do not give out receipts, & I could not keep track of the prices.

Last Week's Total Spending: $20.98

As I earlier reported, Target opened in Hawaii.  My husband & I stopped by the store last Saturday.  Because of the detox challenge, however, we did NOT buy anything!  Temptation was everywhere, though.  They had some great store-brand products on sale and I loved their selection of hats and bags.  Well, maybe next month....

I am also tempted to buy sardine cans at $.99 on sale at Longs Drugs - I know some people find it disgusting, but I love sardine cans!  A lot of temptation & little willpower..... Hahaha :)  Wish me luck!
