The second week of March has already started, and I am embarrassed to make an announcement so late - I seriously need time-management tips.
This month, inspired by No-Spend Challenge @ the MotherLoad, & Two books I recently read - The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches: A Practical (and Fun) Guide to Enjoying Life More by Spending Less, & In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto, I decided to undergo my own fiscal and body detoxification.
Nothing serious & difficult as it sounds. I just decided to buy only vegetables this month. This does not mean that we are vegetarians, now. Thanks to couponing and cherry-picking at grocery and drug stores since last November, we now have a sizable amount of stockpiles - in fact, it started to invade our very tiny living space. I think it is time to take a break from stockpiling and actually downsize our food budget. I am also hoping to detoxify our body by eating a lot of vegetables.
A week already passed since I started this challenge and I am happy & proud to report that it is rather going well.
This past week, I spent;

Fiscal and Body Detox Month - March 2009
Safeway - Total: $6.98
10 lb. bag of Navel Orange - $4.99
3 lb. bag of Yellow Onions - $1.99
Honolulu's Chinatown - Total: 14.00
Watercress
Onions
Chives
Broccoli
Green Lettuces
Eggplants
Chinese yams
Zucchini
Seaweed
* Shops in Chinatown usually do not give out receipts, & I could not keep track of the prices.
Last Week's Total Spending: $20.98
As I earlier reported, Target opened in Hawaii. My husband & I stopped by the store last Saturday. Because of the detox challenge, however, we did NOT buy anything! Temptation was everywhere, though. They had some great store-brand products on sale and I loved their selection of hats and bags. Well, maybe next month....
I am also tempted to buy sardine cans at $.99 on sale at Longs Drugs - I know some people find it disgusting, but I love sardine cans! A lot of temptation & little willpower..... Hahaha :) Wish me luck!
