Tour de Trash of Honolulu: March 19
Photo Credit: Editor B
Ever wondered what happens to your garbages after you dump them at a collection site? Well, find out by going on the Tour de Trash hosted by the Honolulu Department of Environment Services
This bus tour consists of a series of 6 FREE educational trips to various trash sites in Oahu.
The next trip scheduled on this coming Thursday, March 19, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. will take you to Honolulu's Wastewater Treatment. It might be too late to sign up for this week's tour, because according to the official site - "Buses are usually fully booked within a couple weeks with long wait lists for each tour." But hopefully there are still seats available for the remaining 4 trips scheduled this year.
I have never been on this tour, but have been to trash sites several times as a part of school trip... As much as I was impressed by the new technology used to handle ever-increasing amounts of garbages, they were truly eye-opening experiences for me - I became more careful with what, where, & how I throw things away.
Frankly, I am not so impressed with how Honolulu handles garbage, especially when Scotland as a nation, Sydney city and this small town in Japan strive for "Zero Waste." Or how San Francisco City is trying to reduce waste by mandating 75 percent of its garbage to be recycled or composted by 2010 - I will not go into the debate over whether composting is not so eco-friendly for emitting greenhouse gas...
I realize that suddenly requiring us, Honolulu residents, to compost all our food waste and sort other rubbish into 34 different categories is not so feasible (not to mention political suicide for Mufi & city council members).
The city, however, could make a green step forward by immediately mandating comprehensive curbside recycling citywide (not just some pilot areas) with additional bins for hazardous wastes (such as used batteries, electronics, etc.)
Currently I go to nearby schools or shopping center (like Dillingham Plaza when I shop at Savers) to recycle my paper stuff. I, however, have no idea what to do with hazardous wastes - I try to use rechargeable batteries, but I still need regular batteries for emergency electronics (since we have so many prolonged blackouts lately...). I have accumulated a considerable amount of batteries with which I have no idea what to do....
Off course, I cannot entirely blame the city for mismanaging our garbage, I know that I have to take a full responsibility over my own trash. Since Steph (I tried to link to her profile, but could not... I have no idea how to use this commentluv thing I again impulsively installed. I am sorry, Steph.) left me comments about composting, I have been doing some research on this matter, & found WORMLADY in Hawaii!!
I am not so thrilled about having worms inside my house (Our landlord strictly forbids us to leave anything outside our unit), I cannot deny my fascination with this WORMLADY....
* * * * * * *
I digressed... If you want to know more about this Tour de Trash, please visit the official site or call 768-3200.

I have My Own Blog Button!!
I had been coveting for my own blog button since I started my little blog. It seems that all of my cool senior (not in age, but in experience) bloggers have fabulous buttons. I googled & googled trying to find out how to create one to no avail.
Then, my blog mentor, Ginger, out of nowhere, offered me to create a blog button for my blog! I was so moved by her act of kindness that I almost cried reading her e-mail. She's done this for me despite her busy life (she owns more than 5 blogs...) and worry & concern over her sick family members. She really is a wonderful human being. I certainly would like to follow her examples & engage in acts of kindness more often. I cannot thank her enough.
As I afore-mentioned, Ginger owns more than 5 blogs. All of her blogs are naturally fabulous.
Attention Target Shoppers - If you love to shop at Target, you'll love this blog. You'll find a complete list of coupon-match for grocery deals at Target & constant updates on deals.
AdlibCorner - A great place to learn ways to earn on the Internet with no investment.
Coupon Rebates & Refunds - I have never seen such a throughly complete cover of coupons & rebates elsewhere... Seriously, I don't know how she does it...
Attention Deal Shoppers - Find great internet bargain info here!
Channeling June Cleaver - Learn how to be a great homemaker - just like June Cleaver in "Leave It To Beaver". To tell you the truth, I don't know who June Cleaver is, but the blog certainly is a great help for a somewhat inept housewife like me...
Thirteen Bucks - What can you do with just 13 bucks - find out!
Slumpadinka Club - Anything that has to do with free t-shirts, hats, panties, totes on this one. BTW, Ginger, what does "slumpadinka" mean....?
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Back to my button. Isn't it lovely? I don't mean to brag, but I so adore it!
Please grab it by copying and pasting the code (below the button) on your blog. I also would love to link-exchange with you. If you are interested, please leave comments or email me.

So... What did I do Wrong?
photo credit: Nadya Peek
Dear Valued Readers;
First things, first, In my post of ""The Difference" by Jean Chatzky: Free Download...," I misspelled Oprah's name several times. I am sorry, Oprah. Overwhelmed by embarrassment and confusion, I completely destroyed the entry. If you came to my blog looking for the post, I am sorry, too... AND, please, please, please let me know (i.e., leave comments or e-mail me), if I misspell or use incorrect grammars - I am still learning English...
I also want to apologize for technical disaster my blog has encountered last weekend - It seems that the right side bar & bottom half of my blog suddenly disappeared in Internet Explorer last Friday. I did not realize this until later, because I use Google Chrome, but my blog mentor, Ginger @ Attention Target Shoppers kindly informed me - without her, I am completely lost in this blogosphere.
As I had no idea what happened, I started to reverse what I did to my blog since its launch.
The major alternations I made;
1. Turn 2 Columns into 3 Columns - using this formula @ Three Column Blogger
2. Changed Colors of the Title Background, using this HTML Color Code
3. Added Expand/Hide features by following instructions @ Hackosphere. Thank you, Ramani for a great instruction.
4. Added a Twitter button and Older Post Gadget - aren't they super cute?
So, I just erased them all by first reinstalling an original blogger template and manually erasing each gadget. Then, I looked at my blog using Internet Explorer - No change... My right side bar and bottom half were still gone.
I still wanted to have three-column blog, so I did some research & decided to use the afore-mentioned formula @ Three Column Blogger, incorporating the pixel dimensions @ Matthew James Taylor's Blog.
I also did not want to lose expand/hide features of my blog, because (1) I spent many hours searching for a perfect instruction & (2) I manually changed HTML codes of almost all of the older posts & I did not want to redo it again. So I re-changed the layout HTML codes. Then, I checked my blog via Internet Explorer. At this time, I was so exhausted (& my hubby was irritated w/ my sudden infatuation with a computer), I just called it a night.
Then, next morning, I checked my blog through Internet Explorer. To my delightful surprise, my bottom half was back, but the right side bar also appeared at the very bottom of the blog. At this time, I just decided to leave the matter to geniuses working at Blogger. This strategy seemed have worked & now things are back to normal. Thank you, Blogger Employees!
It appears that I could have done nothing and waited for my blog to get back to normal... So what caused all this mess? I still don't know.... Now, I am afraid (indeed very afraid) of doing anything to my blog....
Two lessons I learned from this experience - (1) DO NOT PRETEND TO BE A COMPUTER PERSON, WHEN YOU ARE NOT & (2) CREATE A TEST BLOG!!
Again, I am really sorry for the mess I think I may have created. If you by any chance know what caused my problem, please, please, please leave comments.

Menu Plan Monday - March 16
This week's menu plan is hosted by Erin @ $5 Dinner.com, a simply marvelous site to find frugal and delicious recipes. She also provides very-easy-to-follow tips for novice cooks like me. My recent favorite was "What to do with bone in split chicken breast."
Well, back to my menu plan for this week... We are expecting out-of-state visitors, so we will be eating out quite a lot. Also I have three large cabbage heads in my refrigerator - they were on sale @ Foodland for $.15/lb. So we'll have a lot of cabbage on our table...
Mon: Leftover Thai Curry on Fettucini Thai curry is my hubby's specialty. I love his Thai curry & regularly request it. He did not give me a recipe (He tells me that I would not be able to handle it correctly...), but slipped some "secret ingredients" - Chicken Stock Powder, Japanese Sake, Peanut Butter, Condensed Milk, Oyster Sauce, Soy Sauce, Sugar, & Fish Sauce...
Tue: Eat Out (Probably Italian @ Mediterraneo Italian) Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Wed: Japanese Pancake (Okonomiyaki) I will post a recipe later.
Thu: Vegetable Saute - I might add some meat (e.g, chicken, pork, or bacon) w/ rice
Fri: Eat Out (Probably Japanese @ Jimbo)
Sat: Cabbage & Chicken Salad w/ Thai-Style Peanut Sauce w/ Soft Flour Tortilla (Wrap a salad, maybe?)
Do you have any recipes for cabbage? My hubby do not care for sauerkraut... & I am a little bit lost. I always appreciate hearing from you.
